A Fresh Approach to Food Labels

Fresh Label

How fresh is your dinner tonight?

Mislabeled perishables are more common than you might expect; a fact to surely leave anyone with a bad aftertaste. While current food packaging may deceive you, the Fresh Label, from designer Naoki Hirota, uses a special ink to detect the presence of certain compounds emitted when food starts going sour. In turn, the label turns a blue color, warning the consumer and concealing the barcode from scanners. Pretty clever and functional, you can find the inspiration for this packaging featured on Yanko,  the international design exhibition.

Delicious!
